Welcome!

Dear Future Students of English 110,

My name is Selden Tenzing, and I took English 21003 this spring semester. I will recount my experience as a student to Professor Killebrew and how the semester being all online affected me. As we all know due to COVID 19 we had to stay home and it was very disappointing since this was my first year. Even though I was not on campus I did try to make the most out of it. It was a hard semester working from home but this class was a lot of fun. It wasn’t like any other English class. Being able to choose our own topic instead of being given one made it easier for me and my classmates to express what we thought. This led to a lot of interesting conversations and discussions since we all came from such distinct backgrounds. This made it fun because usually English classes don’t operate in this way. It was refreshing to get to write about something that I am passionate about rather than a topic I don’t have any interest in. This was the best part of the class and hopefully future students get to experience it too.

This class is a lot of work but it is all worth it. Each assignment we are given has its own purpose that guided us to the end. In the beginning, the formal letter helped us begin the class in a easy way. Then we move on to the NYT Summary & Response which was all about exploring and recording our responses. This all tied into the other assignments as we have to do similar things like picking the topic of our choice and then write an analysis on it. This all led to our final controversy paper. All the assignments are linked together and made it flow better. Not only that but with each assignment had a emphasis specific on a rhetorical element. Through the drafts and peer reviews, we got to refine our work. Another good thing about this class is Professor Killabrew puts a lot of emphasis on peer review and comments from peers which helps us get different perspectives on things. This was a lot a great way to interact with each other since we were all online. This class wasn’t just sending in assignments it was about actually understanding what we are doing. I know I enjoyed it because some of my friends who took English with other teachers only had due dates and no interaction. My writing has definitely changed for the better through the peer review sessions because it’s not just one person giving you constructive critisism it’s a group so you get a more in-depth review of your work.

By doing our assignments, homework, class discussions, and peer review we crossed out each course learning outcome (CLO). We have eight of them and we met all of them in different aspects of our work whether it was through talking, presenting, research or our essays. This brings us back to this project I am making this website to show you how I met each of the CLO’s through my work and show you examples. This is to also show the Professor what I have learned over the past few months and also like a what I achieved website since I will be showing you guys my work. I have made this to show how fun all the assignments are and to give you a little insight into how you might experience this class. Basically I will show you my journey throughout this class and I hope you enjoy it.
